An exposition of Acts 8:4-40.
This passage of Scripture presents a powerful contrast between two types of people who are attracted to Christianity. The first type is represented by a man named Simon. He was attracted to Christianity because of the miraculous signs that he witnessed other Christians possess. The second type is represented by a man from Ethiopia who was in possession of a copy of God’s Word. He was attracted to Christianity because of the Gospel message he read from that manuscript. These two men show us the difference between a fanatical faith based merely on miracles, and a factual faith based entirely on the message of the Bible. In this study, we explore the vast between a person attracted to a sensational display of unexplained phenomenon, and the person attracted to the atoning work of the Person of Jesus Christ.
A lecture on the Order of the Church: Its Success, Part 2.
The New Testament describes the church as an organism and an organization. As an organism, she is a living entity for which God is largely responsible for her existence and growth; as an organization, she is a well ordered mechanism for which man is largely responsible for her discipline and oversight. A healthy church is one which maintains discipline as an organization, as well as one which grows in the Lord as a living body. These lectures on the Order of the Church are looking at the assembly of Christ from the standpoint of her organizational components.
The question answered in this study: Should a church measure her success based on duty or results? It is our conviction that results based measurements lead to manipulative methods which breeds irreverence.
An exposition of Psalm 4:1,2.
It is a beautiful experience when a person is able to overcome adversity. Greater still is the experience of those persons who are able to overcome the anxiety which builds up as the result of adversity. King David provides a helpful guide on how a Christian is able to conquer the worry which dominates an agitated heart: First, he calls upon the Lord; Second, he challenges his oppressors.
A lecture on the Order of the Church: Its Success, Part 1.
The question answered in this study: Should a church measure her success based on duty or results? It is our conviction that result based measurements creates a false balance, cultivates hurtful attitudes and promotes a wrong perspective.
An Exposition of Psalm 4:1-8.
The title for this Psalm is, “To the chief musician on Neginoth, a Psalm of David.” The chief musician was a foreman, or leader of a musical ensemble. The singers, players and leader each had a role in music, the parts making up the whole. This Psalm was written purposefully to be used for public worship and sung in the house of God. It is therefore fitting that we explore the doctrine of song in this present study.
An exposition of Genesis 1:1-2:3.
The creation of the world has been a subject of controversy for centuries. It has taken a drastic turn for the worst over the last 150 years. Ungodly philosophers and ignorant scientists have attempted to interpret the works of God by rejecting the Word of God. This study seeks to answer the question: Why did God choose to create in the world in six days, if He could have finished it in a split second?
An exposition of Psalm 3.
It was a very difficult circumstance which led King David to pen the words of this Psalm. At a time when we would suspect his mind to be engaged with a fog of confusion, shaking with much trepidation and pricked to the core with tremendous hurt, he was nevertheless able to get a good night’s sleep. This Psalm provides an excellent guide to help all of God’s afflicted people secure a good night’s sleep in the midst of great distress.
A lecture on the Order of the Church: Its Size.
The question answered in this study: Has the Lord designed His church to grow without numerical limits, or is there an optimal size each congregation should seek to maintain?
